Statistical data likely to have an impact on the level of economic activity. Indicators with a forecasting value are known as leaders; those contemporaneous with economic activity are called coincidents; while those that only become apparent after the activity are known as laggers. Business indicators are called economic indicators and usually include average workweek, weekly unemployment insurance claims, new factory orders, industrial production, vendor performance, stock prices, changes in the money supply, housing starts, rate of business development, number of bankruptcies, Gross Domestic Product, Consumer Price Index, confidence levels, and housing starts.
