BizTerm Definition
CVM Code, CVV2 Code, CVC2 Code, or CID Code
Short Definition
Code printed on credit cards to prevent fraud
Full Definition

The CVM code is a 3-digit value printed on the back of your credit card.

On American Express cards, the CVM code consists of 3-4 digits located on the front of the card.

These codes identify the actual physical card that is being used, and are often required when submitting online payments to prevent fraudulent use of stolen credit card numbers. Older cards may not have a CVM card, in which case this number should not be required to use the card.

Visa calls this code CVV2, and Mastercard calls this CVC2, and American Express calls this CID. These codes are refered to collectively as CVM codes.
