Mainframe Computer
Full Definition

Traditionally these were computers with a lot of computing power and occupying large rooms. As technology has advanced mainframes have become much smaller and more powerful. At the same time personal computers and mini computers have also greatly increased their computing power. The distinction between these three `classes' of computer has become blurred as personal computers have made most mini computer systems irrelevant and LANs and WANs have given them processing power equivalent to many mainframe systems.
